About this photograph
After a week of near-freezing February weather, the Hudson was full of ice floes drifting down from upriver. I went to the waterfront to photograph them at sunset. Just as I thought I had my shot, a tugboat cut through the ice and into the frame. The captain caught my eye. I’m pretty sure he nodded, and I nodded back. I like to think he knew what his timing had added to the photograph.
