About

Juan Melli photographing granite spires from a lakeshore in the Wind River Range, Wyoming
That’s me in Wyoming’s Wind River Range, with plastic bags over my socks to keep them dry.

I’m Juan Melli, a fine art photographer based in Hoboken.

I caught the photography bug backpacking in the Sierra and Rockies, where it’s hard to take a bad picture. Back home, I wanted to show the beauty and breadth of New Jersey. I still chase that, from the Delaware Water Gap to the Palisades. I also shoot the urban and industrial landscape around me: Hoboken, the Hudson River and the Meadowlands, always looking for a new perspective on a familiar place. And birds and wildlife, whenever they decide to cooperate.

My photographs have appeared in Backpacker, New Jersey Monthly, Gothamist and on FOX 5, on the NY-NJ Trail Conference’s trail maps, in publications by The Nature Conservancy in New Jersey, and on the cover of the New Jersey Environmental Law Handbook. See them in print →
